dark emotional sad

i will literally never recover

some semi-coherent thoughts to cope™:

- insanely well-written compared to the previous books
- i highlighted half the book and cried like 3-4 times
- jean's slow but steady
realisation that something about his life was very very wrong actually
was 1) incredibly well-written and 2) impressively natural??? nora how did you pull this off do you need to talk maybe
- NEIL MF JOSTEN. i love you i would die for you
- hats off to nora the absolute legend, who traumatised a character so thoroughly and still managed to make it a compassionate read and not trauma porn
- did i mention that i cried

tldr i loved this book and i'm not sure how i'm supposed to read anything else now 👍

Nothing about the way I rate these books is objective.

I have held this book series close to my heart for years and this much needed book really shed a better light on Jean Moreau's character and his trauma. Cried bc I love this book series so much.

Binge read it for 5 hours straight at night until the sun came up

i love jean yves moreau so much oh my god!!

I also really enjoyed how the book does mention the mutual attraction between jean and  jeremy but still focuses mostly  on first socialising jean around people and learning to accept help and having friends and i- ARGHJ boundaries <3

Hes bisexual he’s weak to pretty faces hes been hurt by pretty faces he looks anyway but it’s the wrong time hes still piecing himself together!!

He chants a mantra reminding himself of his position he says he deserves it to keep himself from going insane at the injustice of his life!! He’s a beaten down dog he tried to fight but he had no one at his side resistance only made things worse and there was no one there for him the way Neil had him mother so why continue fighting? Despite all that he still treasures the little tenderness he receives from others and even if they later betrayed him he still cares for them in turn!! He loves them he hates them theyre teammates. Then he meets the Trojans <3 And finally all that love and care is actually reciprocated and they look out for him care for him as a  PERSON

And then oh my god his sister. That he has repressed this whole time alongside his grief his resentment his longing and all his suffering was pointless in the end it didnt even protect her.
i love jean so much he loves and was made to be loved

And then you have jeremy!!!
With his additional 10 layers of avoidance we dont know his rich boy trauma story just that on some level his sunny persona and meddlesome behaviour is compensating distracting from whatever he has going on at home

I always speed through this book (2nd or 3rd read) there’s just something about it. I will always and forever be rooting for Jean. I am very excited to learn more about whatever the fuck is going on with Jeremy cause that man spares No Thought for Himself What So Ever.
Cat and Jeans friendship is so special.
