Read this on talking book early in my library career. Now it feels like a classic in my mind. Great adventure story about a bat who gets away from his group in a migration. Great stuff.

It's a good book, although a bit juvenile. I will still continue reading the series and finishing it off. I would definitely recommend it to a 13-16 age group. Very fast paced and adventurous so you won't get bored reading it.

I always long the fictional animal books, and Silverwing is no exception. I loved reading Shade's adventure to return to his colony, and defeating the vampire bat, Goth. My favorite part was when he met Zephyr, he is the wise old bat that knows everything. I also thought that the movie and the television series were also great.

In the tradition of other children’s animal books, like Watership Down, Silverwing is often amusing and bizarre and brutal, though it unfortunately often drags without wings.

I really enjoyed the story. It took some time for the world building, but once that was established, the plot captured me and I found it to be a real page-turner! I really enjoyed reading about Shade's journey, his growth and his relationship with Marina. It was a very fun read!

Wow, this book was excellent! Animal fantasy using bats as the main characters - you have to be creative to pull something like that off. I forget where I saw a recommendation for this series, but, initially, I thought, no way. Then I saw it at a used bookstore for cheap and bought the first two books. Partway into the first, I realized that this series is special. There's some odd relationships going on in the book, but I'm assuming that Oppel is laying out the immaturity of the main characters. Hopefully, Shade will grow up soon. Of course, he was just born a few months ago, so I guess that I have to give him some slack in acting like a pre-teen that has seen way too many Hollywood teen romances.

This series is a definite read aloud to your kids. Bonus points if you use different voices for the different characters. Extra bonus points if you figure out what bats would sound like if they could talk.
