This book has just consumed me for the 6 days it’s taken me to read. Never have a felt like I might cry for almost all 327 pages.
My feelings are perfectly summarised by a quote on the front cover - “One of the most thought provoking books I’ve ever read…written with passion, honesty and poetry”.

Love, pain, hope and grief intertwined in a tale of the loss of a land.
In a world mercilessly trying to break and erase their existence, they cannot break their spirits.
You should all read this book to gain some empathy back. The desensitization has gone too far.

Must read.
A family pushed from their home and broken up by Zionist during the Nakba live and die with the trauma over generations.
The personalization of the horrors inflicted on Palestinians makes this a heartbreaking read.

Beautiful, gripping and tremendously moving account of four generations of a Palestinian family. Was hard to believe this book is fiction, it was so well written, the characters and their pain so real. The emotions this book invoked will probably stay with me for a while.

I can't believe how ignorant I (and probably most Americans in my generation or younger) was of the Palestinian perspective. This book opened my eyes to it and almost (almost, mind you) rationalized the hatred and violence in the region for me. It was difficult to read at times. It's one of those novels based on historical facts that make you put your own problems into perspective and think, "how can the world let these things continually happen?".
I would be interested to read the Israeli take on this novel. Although the author shows humanity and compassion in the Jewish characters, the perspective is obviously Palestinian.
