An engaging and compassionate novel about the lives of palestinians from 1948 to the early 2000s.

A deeply moving, but also wonderfully written prose. I especially liked the parts written in first perspective where Amal reads the prose about Palestine and what Israel did there.

One of the more heartbreaking books I've ever read. I'm ashamed to admit that I wasn't aware that the genocide has been going on for so long - 7+ decades?!! (I guess I naively thought that the Palestinians had been pushed off their lands, and placed in less-desirable regions (much like the Native Americans), and then more or less left alone, until recent years. I wasn't aware that the terror and persecution has been seemingly ceaseless.

There have been literally hundreds of films and books about the European Jewish holocaust, and depressingly too few about the ongoing Palestinian genocide.

Insight into the Palestinian side of the story is imperative for anyone who cares about humanity and human rights.

One of the greatest failures of the modern era is that the true morality lesson from WWII has been lost. The lesson isn't: the Jews were victims of horrendous and unimaginable crimes, and have therefore earned the right to exact their revenge on whomever and in whichever way they wish. NO. The lesson to be learned is rather: the Jews were victims of horrendous and unimaginable crimes, and no such acts shall ever take place again.!!

I sadly see no reprieve in the coming years. :(

Oh, I almost forgot about the writing!! The writing is pure beauty!! Such gorgeous and poetic use of language! I'm inspired to read more from Arabic authors.
