Full disclosure: I was fortunate to be chosen to be a beta reader for Ms. Cain's debut novel.

I've yet to read the final draft but I was impressed with how effective C.d. was at bringing the south to life in the mind of this northern reader. I enjoyed the whole southern dynamic and colourful characters in this story. Rayne's Memaw and mother stand out as characters I will never forget. They brought the South to life and added humour and heart to this novel of awakening.

The author's prose often read like poetry and while I am not the biggest fan of "to be continued" reads, I'm looking forward to seeing what paths Rayne chooses in her future. I'm also looking forward to watching Ms. Cain grow as an author after this strong start to her writing career.
