I have no words. This was beautiful and heartbreaking and everything I wanted it to be.
This was everything I could have wanted from a finale honestly. The whole gamut of emotions was reached. I loved the balance of humor that Kristoff seems always to manage to sustain alongside the gore, blood, and violence. (Also, shout out to a male author calling himself out HERE FOR IT. The entire meta of the book in the book was delightful to me.) But seriously - this book wrapped things up neatly. I loved the ending, and I'm glad Mia was given happiness at the end. Boy oh boy does she deserve it! But it was all bittersweet, too. I found myself mourning for all she had to give up throughout the series, as well as for the people who had to essentially give up her. Jonnen quickly became one of my favorite players in this installment. His growth and journey slayed me! I'm also so sad for Tric but so in love with his character - the fact that he allowed Ashliin to find her way back to Mia because he truly DOES love Mia and DOES want her happy; that's so in line with who he is as a person and boy if that didn't cut my heart out. (I think I shipped Tric and Mia most, the more I think on it, but I did love the relationship she had with Ash and I'm glad they get to be happy now.) Anyway this isn't much of a review so much as all of my thoughts that are sitting with me upon finishing, but I'm too tired and emotionally drained to be eloquent or particularly thoughtful so like. I LOVED IT OK. There was not a moment that dragged, not a piece of it I would change.
Is it possible to feel happy and disappointed at the same time? And is there a word to describe this feeling?
This was my most anticipated book of the year but I am afraid to tell you gentlefriends it was a bag full of shite! There were some great parts too but not enough to keep me interested.
Tric's revival made no sense. I was hoping for him to play a bigger part but all he did was NOTHING. I never liked Ash and never fancied Mia and Ash together.
Not every story deserve a happy ending. The best part of this series was its unpredictability and dark tone. I think I can say this for everyone that nobody wanted a happy ending from this book.
I am also tired of seeing dead characters coming back to life. Dead chacarers should stay dead! I mean is it too much to ask for?
The ending was way too convenient to be taken seriously. Everything that happened in the end was just urm.. Hasty writing. The middle part of the book was absolutely boring and unnecessary. Jay should have used that space to write an epic ending but he did the complete opposite.
I prefer the ending of second book. It was epic. Unpredictable. Shocking. Perfect. The series should have ended there. Or at least the revenge part of the story.
The shadow cat and the whole shadow thing needed to be in the forefront but it wasn't. The whole revenge part of the story got repetitive and boring. Scevea felt a like a Nerfed version of himself.

Thank you, Mr Kristoff, for such a beautiful and personal journey. What a fantastic end to the trilogy.

I love this author's writing style AND the footnotes! Enjoyed all 3 books from this series. I am sad to see it ended but looking forward to more from this author.

Jay Kristoff...you are a fucking genius.
But also...fuck you. Very hard.

Intense. Certainly entertaining. I would’ve given it 4 stars but it just pissed me off so much.
The cons for me:
The authors self-inserts were endless and as pretentious as he said they were. I simply could not forgive Ashlinn. I was so sad for Tric, as I suppose I am meant to be. I hope he found warmth at the hearth. The whole thing seemed a bit like it was trying to be more profound than just a cool, fantasy story, which I don’t think it needed to do.
But onto the pros: Mia and Jonnen were wonderful. As were most of the side characters. A little unbelievable that Jonnen was so understanding of Mia wanting to kill his father but hey, I’m willing to overlook it. I thought the descriptions were good. Loved the absurdity of it all. Storyline was interesting and violent and there was heaps of adventure to keep one enthralled.
Maybe I lack the ability to invest myself in book series as much as I once could. I enjoyed this truly, but I definitely didn’t feel as attached as I have to other books.

My full review will come soon, but just know that this book was pure perfection. All of the stars to this book. Best book of 2019 and I don’t foresee reading a better one this year
