Uccidiamo a caso Ashlinn. Ma aspetta! Ci serve per il finale! Vabbé dai facciamo che risorge pure lei.

Conclusioni

it wasn’t my favourite but it was a great conclusion to the series

I feel like I need a day or two to decompress after finishing this trilogy 🥲 This book is a great ending to the trilogy - this review is going to be on the shorter side to avoid any spoilers 📝

I ended up quite attached to all of the characters in this series - even the newer ones introduced in the second book. Jay Kristoff has an amazing way of writing such personable characters that feel so real. The world building continues in this book and the magic system with the shadows continues to be enjoyable 🖤

I really enjoyed this final book and felt like it had much better pace than the middle book. The ending didn’t quite go the way I wanted, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. I’m really not sure what I’ll be picking up next - probably something lighthearted whilst I recover from this trilogy 😅

A strong conclusion to this series, though I did find it to be the weakest of the three books. While I enjoyed the addition of pirates to this story, particularly Cloud Corleone, who was very reminiscent of Han Solo, I didn't find the plot to be as propulsive as in Godsgrave or Nevernight.

The edginess that some have found a little cringe in this series I always enjoyed, though certain scenes in this book took it just a little too far for me. Mia is topless/naked quite a bit, her constant swinging of her various titles seemed to over compensate, and the scenes of her enacting bloody vengeance on her enemies were so frequent it began to lose it's edge quite quickly.

Where this book shines is in the emotional crux between characters. Certain people from Mia's past reappearing in her life and the fallout that comes from that. All the hurt and pain that slowly blossoms into tenderness and love was really touching. Certain characters took turns I wasn't expecting and I loved that.

Overall, a strong conclusion and I look forward to picking up Jay's next series.

And so I finish the last book in the Nevernight Chronicle. [a:Jay Kristoff|4735144|Jay Kristoff|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1310187120p2/4735144.jpg] definitely created a unique world with a memorable cast of characters, however, it was one that I felt came to a weak end.

Mia has finally killed the Grand Cardinal, but the murder of her greatest nemesis, Julius Scaeva, failed. Nevertheless she sets out to finish what she started, and her list of enemies have only grown longer; now the entire Red Church is on her death list. But when an old friend once thought lost reappers, everything shifts on its head, and finally Mia gets answers to who she really is and what her purpose is. But some questions might have gone better unanswered. Truedark is quickly ascending, and gods are waiting for mortals to play out their game.

“And that's the riddle, little brother. How do you kill a monster without becoming one yourself?”

I'll just get it out of the way and say that the three-star rating was for the brilliant world. As I mentioned, in [b:Darkdawn|39281503|Darkdawn (The Nevernight Chronicle, #3)|Jay Kristoff|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1547640131l/39281503._SY75_.jpg|42805838] the puzzle pieces start falling into place and we finally see the big picture: what are Darkins, really? Why are there three moons in the sky, and what happened to Niah and Aas son? [a:Kristoff|4735144|Jay Kristoff|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1310187120p2/4735144.jpg] biggest strength is definitely his imagination (although it's also his biggest weakness, but we'll get to that later) and I loved everything about it. If anything I wished we could have explored it even more - gotten to know more about ancient Ashkah, the old magics, Liis, Dweymeri and the Sorcerii. If [a:Kristoff|4735144|Jay Kristoff|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1310187120p2/4735144.jpg] would write any more books in this setting I would most definitely read them.

Now, to the not so positive, which unfortunately are a lot. First of all, [b:Darkdawn|39281503|Darkdawn (The Nevernight Chronicle, #3)|Jay Kristoff|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1547640131l/39281503._SY75_.jpg|42805838] felt immature in a way I didn't really get with the other books. The dialogue was cringy and very repetitive - every time I had to read Mister Kindlys and Eclipse bickering I wanted to throw the book as far away as possible. Every time Mia had to go all bitchy and hardcore with her swearing and "I'm-not-like-other-girls-I-smoke-cigarrillos"-bullshit I literally winced from how stupid it was.

This might go hand in hand with a booktube video I watched a while ago from the brilliant readwithcindy. Her review hit the nail on everything I had been feeling a bit icky about, and having someone else bringing it up only elevated the ickiness for me. For an example - why is a middle-aged man writing graphic sex scenes between two teenage girls? To me, it felt both fetischizing and straight up creepy, and I couldn't stop feeling like [a:Kristoff|4735144|Jay Kristoff|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1310187120p2/4735144.jpg] took some pleasure himself from writing those scenes. Which there were a lot of, just saying. I remember how [a:Maggie Stiefvater|1330292|Maggie Stiefvater|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1587234813p2/1330292.jpg] actually had to tell her fanbase that there would not be any grapic scenes between two male characters in her [b:The Raven Boys|17675462|The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1)|Maggie Stiefvater|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1573508485l/17675462._SY75_.jpg|18970934] series because she was a grown woman and they were teenage boys and that would be weird and inappropriate.

Another weird thing was how meta [b:Darkdawn|39281503|Darkdawn (The Nevernight Chronicle, #3)|Jay Kristoff|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1547640131l/39281503._SY75_.jpg|42805838] got. Obviously, this series always were a bit meta with the footnotes and all that, but here it literally felt like [a:Jay Kristoff|4735144|Jay Kristoff|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1310187120p2/4735144.jpg] used his book to just give a huge fuck-you to all the people who had been criticizing his writing. Just look at these lines right here.

“Oh, fuck me," you were thinking, "it's been awhile. I wonder where all the footnotes went. Maybe the author got embarrassed by everyone in his own book taking a steaming shit on them, and decided to refrain for the rest of the novel. Well, fuck you, gentle friends.”

“It has footnotes. What kind of wanker writes a novel with footnotes?”

It just added to the entire feeling of immaturity this book, and honestly entire series, had to it, which ruined so much of what was actually good about it for me. [a:Jay Kristoff|4735144|Jay Kristoff|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1310187120p2/4735144.jpg] is an insanely talented writer in so many ways, but I feel like he can't really seperate himself, his feelings and, let's be honest, his desires, enough from his books which sadly ends up bringing them down.

This series had so many great things about it, but I unfortunately leave it feeling exhausted and not really wanting to look back, even if the world had so much potential and magic about it. Sorry, [a:Kristoff|4735144|Jay Kristoff|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1310187120p2/4735144.jpg]. It actually wasn't your footnotes for me.

This trilogy by Kristoff deserves more hype by bookworms across all social media platforms.

I discovered this series through Goodreads recommendations and I am so thankful for that app for introducing me to this author and this particular series because this trilogy was what I wanted and needed when it came to assassins, revenge and epic fantasy.

I personally think, Darkdawn was the best in this trilogy. The story progression was well-structured filled with travels around the world, dangerous sea voyages, and some heartwarming moments between a lot of the characters across from the entire series.

Although each book felt different from the last, Kristoff ties all three perfectly well with a nice bow. The themes remained the same with all three of his books: familia, friendship, loyalty, responsibility, revenge, and love that persists. Kristoff did a tremendous job with the character's progression and truly making each character either likable or unfathomable.

I also love Kristoff's writing style, especially when he makes fun of his writing. This book needs more credit and hype than it gets. My favorite book in the series for sure, and ultimately one of my favorite book series I've read. So dear readers, DO NOT sleep on this series or this author.

Well Gentlefriends.... Fuck me very gently, then fuck me very hard... And this book fucked me all over again. Must say it was a masterpiece and a complete emotional rollercoaster for me... My favorite characters died, my least favorite one came back from dead... I bawled my eyes out for Eclipse, Adonai, Aelius, Butcher, TRIC (again!) and more... Smiled when Ash died (just couldn't trust her after what she did, I couldn't get over it, and all together didn't liked her)... Laughed hard in the bantering between characters and funny stories from the past. The love in this book was heart warming and twisted (family, friends, love).
Absolutely adored the magic line in this book, the world build with the light and dark, the moon and the story behind it's just flawless. Loved the book in a book line, the pirates were great (Claude was a perfect side character) and not to mention the epic endgame fight!!!!
Although the ending was to sweet for me... One thing that I don't like Ash but after this rough trilogy I didn't expected that kind of happy ending. And I say it again, Tric should end up with Mia!
