This is by far the best book in the series - I have mixed feelings about the ending like I liked it but was expecting something else - I also feel like I either read a scene before (idk where) maybe it was somewhere online but it seemed so familiar? But anyway the story was really good and I enjoyed it a lot - even though the writing style wasn't really for me (but I've known that since book 1). Anyway, I'm glad I read it even if this series didn't end up working perfectly for me?

I'm currently sobbing. It was amazing.

This series finale was a little anticlimactic to me. I guess this mainly has to do with the fact I've read Godsgrave over 2 years ago and I couldn't connect with the vibe of this series anymore. Furthermore, I think the amount of travelling (they did that a very lot) slowed the pace down.

CAUTION: SPOILERS FOR GODSGRAVE

I am the war you cannot win.

Holy SHIT. I basically sobbed through the last like quarter of this book, heh. This book wrecked my feels! Jay, you've done it yet again!!

We all knew going in that Mia was going to die in the end. However, we didn't know the deets, and I'm quite happy with how everything played out. It was bittersweet!
SpoilerAlso I may be a masochist because I almost kinda wanted Mia to die for real? I SUCK.

"You kiss like you kill, Mia Corvere."
"And how's that?"
"With finesse."

I fucking LOVE these characters, you guys. Stabby and badass Mia. Prickly but genuine Ash. Tragic, loyal Tric. Mercurio with his tough-as-nails facade hiding a soft mushy center. ECLIPSE. MISTER KINDLY. I especially love Mister Kindly! He is my favorite character of the series!
SpoilerI was TERRIFIED he was going to die! I'm so glad he didn't. And also, I didn't buy his "betrayal" for a second. Everything he ever does is for Mia. HE WOULD NEVER BETRAY HER.
Even Jonnen grew on me, the little shit. I'm glad Mia got a bit of a family!

I love the romance, too! I don't often get super on board with F/F romance (or romance at all, honestly), because I can't relate, but HOT DAMN I loved these girls together. I am Team Ash all the way! (Which I know is an unpopular opinion, baa baa black sheep) They are both so fierce, and Ash is so hard and prickly toward the world with the exception of Mia. I love how tender she is (but still fierce!) when it comes to Mia!

"I've got no claim. She's not mine. She's hers. But if you think for one second I'm not willing to bathe in blood to be the one standing by her side when all this is over, then you're insane. Do you understand me?"

I did feel kinda bad for Tric. He's so hopelessly in love with Mia, but she loves Ash. It's tragic, really. I usually despise love triangles, but this one works for me. I don't mind them as much when there's a clear side - it's when the MC flip flops back and forth between love interests that it irks me. But Mia was pretty clearly in love with Ash, and loyal to Ash, even though she may have had feelings for Tric. (Side note: Did you read Three? YOU NEED TO READ THREE. It will melt your face off with its sexy.)

Also, can we talk about how badass Adonai was when he faced Julius?! HOLY SHIT, DUDE. That scene was just fucking glorious!

I can't really talk about anything else without spoiling things!
SpoilerI absolutely loved the gods and the backstory of Anais, the fallen god, or the Moon, with his body and soul shattered; and how the Darkin were pieces of his soul and Godsgrave was literally the grave of a god because it's where his body fell. LOVED. It had a bit of a Strange the Dreamer feel to it - beautiful and otherworldly! I saw a lot of reviews that said they hated that part, and it was too much for them, but it really worked for me. I thought it was epic! I love how Anais/Moon was restored, that he put out his father/Aa's eyes/suns therefore the sky was restored - one sun, one moon, one night! So freaking cool! I also adore stories about gods, so that could be why.

ECLIPSE. Oh lord, my poor Eclipse! (Although I'm glad it was her and not Mister Kindly, sorry) I was fucking BAWLING when Eclipse died. That broke me! And when Mister Kindly killed the snake and said "this is for Eclipse" I lost my shit all over again. I AM NOT OKAY.

I was also sobbing when Ash died. I didn't see that coming! And I didn't even think about the fact that Tric came back, so Ash probably could too. It felt so final and it hurt. I'm glad they got their happy ending, but at the same time I almost wish they hadn't? It would have made their "deaths" more impactful? (AM I A MASOCHIST?!) But I also cried a bit at the end when they finally got to be together. Still beautiful!
Such a beautiful end to an amazing series! I'll miss it for sure!
