It's pretty easy to tell that you're totally enthralled with a book when you're sad to get to work and get home everyday because you have to stop listening to it. I even found myself waiting in my car a couple of times after work becuase I wanted to know what would happen next. That's a great feeling and it came from a great book, a book that very much lived up to expectations and then went a bit further which is why I'm giving it five stars.

This book keeps you guessing the entire time, but never in a way that makes it seem sloppy or that the intended purpose is that you don't know stuff until you do. I loved Theo too, he was a very good MC. I loved all of the psychology that was added into this book as well, I don't read too much of that, and it teachs me about people. But I'm still reading something thrilling and pageturning, it's just added on as a little bonus. It's sprinked on, like mini marshmellows on hot coco.

Most of the way through this book I was torn between giving it four stars or five stars, I was leaning more towards five stars but the ending really blew me away. It was above and beyond and it cemented in my head that I was going to be giving this book a five star. I mean talk about a twist! If you've read it I hope you agree, if you haven't you're in for a treat!

As a psychiatrist AND a psychotherapist, I have a lot to say about this book. First, it's simultaneously fucked up and brilliant. Second, no doubt the author is a therapist himself because that's the work of someone who knows how to turn a clinical scenario into a thriller and manipulate you as a reader (in a good way), and then take you by surprise.

I struggled with depression in my college years, so I related when the therapist said he became a one because he was struggling, but then (avoiding spoilers) I stopped relating. I started noting "signs" that made so much sense by the end, and I'm proud to say that my clinical sense wasn't misplaced. Yet still, how the author pulled it all off shocked me.

One thing I disagree with is how mental illness is portrayed as a byproduct of childhood traumas. I have the utmost respect for psychoanalysis, but it places so much weight (and blame, for that matter) on the past and on parents. While it has helped many people overcome their traumas and gain a better understanding of themselves, I find that many use its theories to rationalize unacceptable behaviour or deem themselves as beyond repair.

Also, I didn't appreciate how psychiatrists were portrayed as unempathetic and solely focused on medications. Not all of us are like this; come on. 🙄

I really enjoyed the writing and I liked the twist ending!

Yes it has its cheesy moments and there were way too many not realistic moments in terms of medical treatment and psych hospitals for me to feel it was realistic but I enjoyed it & would pick up another book by this author!

The twist was unexpected but most of the plot was just... Meh. Also, too many loose ends for my liking

I loved this book. It held my attention the entire time. The twists and turns weren’t predictable. The only reason for not giving five stars is the very very ending, like the last three sentences. I hate a cryptic ending. Just be straightforward.

This was an amazing read. I think I read the whole thing in just under a week. It was fantastic and I just wanted to solve the mystery. This was a great thriller
