I came across Frank Miller's Batman: Year one after listing to the audio version of it. And the book is well written. It reads like a neonnoir thriller. The artwork is a bit old school but evokes the dark nature of Gotham City. This is basically the origin story of how James Gordon and Bruce Wayne cut their teeth establishing themselves as crime fighters in the city. A must read especially if you are a fan of the caped crusader.

Mi primer comic
It's a classic for a reason! In another review on here someone said something along the lines of "it's difficult to see how this is so revolutionary given how this has become the mainstream version of Batman", and I disagree!
Almost none of the comics/graphic novels I've read (which tbf I don't read that much) are as subtle and well written as Year One. It actually respects the readers intelligence (shocking!) and it manages to use the medium to great effect (show don't tell, please!), and although short and sweet, it manages to tell a compelling narrative. My point is that while this is a very typical Batman story now, it is still so well written and crafted that it remains revolutionary to this day.

This book is not only a great introduction to Batman but also to comics in general. Every time I read this I find something new and it keeps me coming back. I first read it in my late teens at a library sale and then again years later when my spouse bought me a brand new re-release. Easily a 5 star pick for me.

Love Gordon’s character in this, but I don’t think it’s the deepest batman character story. Still a great crime story and obviously foundational for like everything after it.
