A important children’s book about refugees! The illustrations are wonderful! I would definitely read this to an elementary class!

The format was not what I expected when I requested this book. But the illustrated poem is powerful and the illustrations and words work well off each other. It makes an impact regarding the human lives and how it may feel being on the run with the most precious you have. The implications encased in the poem are heavy.

PS. All proceedings are going toward humanitarian aid, which is nice.

PPS. I think this works better as a paper copy than as a Kindle copy, though I have not read the latter, purely because of the illustrations.

Powerful and painful, an ode to refugee families fleeing their war-torn homes by boat, thousands of whom died during their voyage. The watercolor illustrations pair perfectly with Hosseini's words to make this such a tragically emotional read, made all the more heart-wrenching due to the fact that these events continue to happen.

A beautiful, although also sad, homage to the thousands of people that flee their countries in order to find a place where they can live with dignity and in peace.

A simple, delicate story adorned with beautiful illustrations that reminds us that life is the most precious treasure we possess.

Sending light, love and luck to all those who have had, or will have, the courage to flee from wars, persecutions and other difficult realities. May you find your safe place, where you can feel at peace 🙏🏼🤍
