Essentiel reading for anyone in a settler colonial society, and especially for every "American." Expertly presents a compelling history in a narrative style. Complete without going on unnecessary tangents. Well written and engaging.

This was an uncomfortable read. It challenges pretty much all of my American myths.
Sobering. Eye opening. And should be required reading for every American citizen (including the recommended further reading at the end). I will recommend to anyone and everyone I can, to help get the word out.

An incredible book that every American should read. For that matter, everyone else. Not until reading this book will it be apparent how much we didn't learn about the colonization of America. Dunbar-Ortiz does an excellent job of thoroughly laying out the real history from an indigenous perspective, and dispelling common harmful misconceptions that even the most well intentioned people have. It's a short read, and worth every page.
