anyone sharing my fear that this country continues heading in a dangerous direction may find some pyrrhic relief in discovering that the country itself has always been pretty cooked by virtue of its own existence. like any shreds of hope we ever had (e.g., Obamacare, Roe v. Wade, and that time trump got covid) were basically flukes
