Tough to hear about the atrocities but it is important to me to have the different perspectives. I would have liked more about how things can be improved moving forward, there was just a bit at the end. Definitely not a feel-good.

Fantastic. A comprehensive history true to its title. Unapologetic in tone and enlightening in content.

A brutal and sobering look at the real history of the United States, without the pro-colonial propaganda we got in our US history classes. A mandatory read.

Another retelling of the US history from a marginalized point of view. So important, and so horrifying...and don't know how to figure out where to go from here. We read this one as part of our Human Rights Group book club.

Well, this is complicated.

There is a lot of great material and counter-narrative in this book, which makes it useful reading. Perhaps important reading.

It's also frustrating. It's not well written nor edited, often repetitious and there is a tendency to significantly over-simplify in a way that moderately undermines their arguments and credibility. It gets a little better in the second half, and the larger narrative they're arguing is reasonably solid.

I'd love a more diligent, nuanced and well edited approach to this topic. Now on the lookout for that. Feel free to suggest something to me!
