The information contained within is vital and alarming, and yes, difficult to read as a white American. But the format of lists of battles and massacres, followed by lists of protests and resolutions, followed by lists of statistics, followed by lists of modern indignities to the Native peoples, is frankly exhausting. It’s taken me over two years to read this book because I was simultaneously distressed and bored reading this book. Surely there’s a less dry way to present this history?

Thorough, heartbreaking, convicting. I knew about the Native American genocide, obviously, but this book spelled out its systematic and intentional process. Shameful.

Ought to be required reading in the US.

I would recommend everyone try to read, or at least skim, this book. Understanding where we come from is critical to understanding where we are and we we may go.

Hey. You.

The United States' treatment of the American Indians was a calculated imperialist genocide. It's not a question of *if*, it's a question of how we should proceed.
