This was a long and interesting read. I listened to it on audible. I enjoyed the characters and the merging of the family story from ancestors to current day. It was just really long, and some parts of the story dragged on a bit, particularly in the current day parts of the book.

This audiobook was so good, I HAD to buy the paperback! This book follows several generations of one family from Africa to the present from the female family members' perspectives. I was a little confused by the different voices in each chapter (the author skips between diferent generational stories), but once I separated out each voice, I was pleasantly overwhelmed by the whole.

A beautifully written, rich, and lyrical book that got me back into reading after a brief break! This will likely become a classic, and is an intricate and delicate foray into intergenerational trauma, being a POC in academia, and the legacy of slavery.
