I just love everything by Alexander McCall Smith. What can I say? And this was yet another treat.
I enjoyed this quick read. Though the story is told from Paul's point of view, I found myself more invested in the story of his cousin Chloe. The story mostly takes place in a small village in France, and there are several unexpected events that disrupt the quite holiday that Paul and Chloe had planned. This book has plenty of small-town charm and drama to keep one interested, and held my interest until the end.

How can you not want to read a book with a title like this. Charming story that makes me want to go to France.

Not as charming as My Italian Bulldozer. And a little too light and thin.

What a romp! This is my first Alexander McCall Smith book (yes, I know - where have I been!) and it was such a joy.
Paul, a food writer is having a bit of a struggle not only with working on his next book, The Philosophy of Food, but also his relationship with girlfriend and editor (not awkward at all!) Gloria. Oh yes and her two cats.
He gets a break when a distant cousin, Chloe, offers him the chance to stay with her in a French village, giving him time to write in peace and quiet. Or so he thought. The village is filled with quirky characters, a wonderful bakery and a restaurant that well never really reached any good days. Paul finds things are not as they appear; people are hiding secrets and Paul's focus is about to be forcefully changed by the surprising Chloe.
What can be a better read than a book featuring food, France, writing, a bit of intrigue and a few bizarre personalities.
Might have been my first McCall Smith but definitely not my last!
