4.5/5 stars. JLA, as I've said, never disappoints. I loved all the time Layla and Roth had in this book. I finished this so quickly, and I'm almost sad that I did because I knew what was coming in the second book. Wretched torture, that's what.
Anyway, the first book was glorious. We got to see Layla and Roth connect and also see Layla's opinions about the world she knew change. She realizes that not everything is as black and white as it seems. Her character growth doesn't come until later, but for now, we see her begin to question what she is and how that translates to who she is.
It was nice to delve back into one of JLA's supernatural worlds again even though I had to read all the bullshit in the second book.

So I don’t think this book would win any literary awards but if you’re looking for something that makes you feel all gooey inside this is for you. It has that whole enemies to lovers vibe and a bit angsty but I definitely feel like it has some fluff added along with humor. I actually found myself laughing out loud at some parts. I give it five stars because of how good this book made me feel. The banter between Layla and Roth is entertaining for me and left me wanting more. I’m super excited to read the next book.
I really loved this. it totally surprised me. what can I say...Roth. Wayne. 'nuff said;D
So glad I started this series! I very much enjoyed the books.

This was an easy read, very easy read. I read the whole thing in a long afternoon and it held my interest. I don't like the "good" guys in this story and I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to - it's like the author wants to shade all of Layla's clear cut black and white areas with shades of gray. Not even that....it's like black and white in Layla's world should pretty much be eliminated altogether.
I felt the connection between Layla and Roth much more deeply than I did with Layla and Zayne. So I'm curious to see how everything unfolds through the end of the series.

I think the title and the cover are unfortunate for this book. Yes, there are steamy moments, but they don't make up the entire book, and they are not what this book is all about.
Armentrout has set up a good premise here: gargoyles, Lillith, Demons - the age old tale of good vs. evil. Gargoyles are something I have not read about before, so this was interesting. And it worked very well.
I only have two gripes with this book:
1. I felt that Armentrout was basically telling us who Layla was ultimately going to end up with and SHOULD end up with by making it all sad about Roth's sacrifice at the end. I really liked Zayne, and kind of felt as though he was a bit more fleshed out than Roth was, so I didn't like being led there already. I was still kind of holding out for Zayne because
2. Roth wasn't really fleshed out. He was all "I'm a demon. I lie and do bad things" but he didn't really do bad things. He helped Layla out of jams and flirted with her a lot. Too much in my opinion. It got a little annoying actually how much he flirted with her. This is what didn't make him a strong enough character for me to really feel anything for. I felt more for Bambi (the snake on his arm) than I did for him. I didn't really buy Layla and Roth's relationship, nor did I feel the chemistry there. I felt the chemistry with Zayne and Layla much much more.
Despite those two things, I did really enjoy this book. The story was enough to keep me interested and I am curious to read the next book and see if more focus is put on Zayne and Layla. I sure hope so!

OMG, another amazing book by JLA! Kick ass heroine, check! Smart ass sexy demon, check! Yummy shape shifting gargoyle, check! And a whole lot of action, suspense, drama, a comedy with friends. Excellent read, can't wait to read the next book.
