Nette Story, aber irgendwie nicht interessant genug bzw reizt mich das einfach gerade nicht. Könnte nicht wirklich eine Beziehung zu den Charakteren aufbauen und will nicht wissen wie es mit ihnen weitergeht.

Mi sembrava appropriato cominciare la recensione così.
Wow! Questa scrittrice sa come tenermi attaccata alle pagine di un libro e farmi bramare il momento in cui poserò di nuovo i miei occhi sul prossimo capitolo.
In questo primo capitolo della trilogia l'autrice ci presenta il mondo di Layla diviso tra Guardiani (gargoyle protettori che difendono il mondo dai demoni) e, be', i demoni. Nel corso della lettura, si scopre che tutto quello in cui si credeva è in parte falso e piccole verità sono venute a galla facendo così vedere persone che ti sono sempre state accanto sotto una luce diversa, preoccupantemente diversa, oserei dire. Si va, inoltre, alla ricerca di vecchi testi che se in mani sbagliate possono causare la fine del mondo (letteralmente), si combattono nemici e il tutto mentre si affronta una lezione di storia e biologia al liceo.
Azione, mistero e un po' di romanticismo conditi con dell'umorismo fanno le basi di questo inizio.
Non voglio rivelare nient'altro.
Solo un avvertimento: la fine.
Scherzo! Non c'è nulla di cui preoccuparsi! Forse.
I personaggi.
Layla. La protagonista, la ragazza nel cui sangue scorre sangue Guardiano e sangue di demone. Lei vede come qualcosa che la rende diversa, difettosa e pericolosa. Il suo lato demone viene fuori in modo abbastanza crudele. Oltre a vedere le anime, che hanno una diversa colorazione a seconda delle nostre azioni, avvicinando le sue labbra a qualcuno può anche prendergliela. Nonostante questo problema, Layla si dimostra una ragazza forte, coraggiosa e che nasconda un grande potere addormentato dentro di lei.

Il bad boy, il demone, il ragazzo con l'ego e strafottenza grande quanto una casa e pieno di tatuaggi. Mi è difficile esprimere quanto mi abbia colpito il suo personaggio. Si presenta come demone, nel corso della lettura non perde occasione per ricordare che, essendo un demone, si approfitta delle persone, eppure.. quando è con Layla si frena, fa esattamente l'opposto di quel che dice e si dimostra comprensivo. Un demone comprensivo... l'avreste mai detto? Mi sto arrovellando il cervello per capire cosa gli stia succedendo e non si tratta solo del fatto che si è innamorato, c'è dell'altro.
Zayne. Il Guardiano, l'amico d'infanzia di Layla, colui che è che stato ribattezzato dalla sottoscritta "oh, terzo incomodo, togliti dai piedi!". È rimasto un po' in disparte in questo libro ma si vede benissimo, anzi è LAMPANTE quanto sia innamorato di Layla, quanto ci tenga e quanto si preoccupi per lei, ma lei, a causa della sua natura succhia-anime e al piccolo dettaglio che un Guardiano deve accoppiarsi con una Guardiana, la loro storia d'amore è sempre stata impossibile.

Guardando "Detective Conan" e "One Piece" ho sviluppato un'elevata attenzione (*tossisce* paranoia *tossisce*) per i dettagli. Penso, infatti, che le cose non vengano buttate lì senza un motivo.Di seguito un elenco di supposizioni e domande che ritengo possano avere importanza in futuro.
•I tatuaggi di Roth. Quello in lingua antica penso abbia un significato importante, non so bene cosa ma ce l'ha. Un ruolo importante lo avranno quello del drago e dei gattini.
•Dato il punto sopra mi pare ovvio che Roth non è morto. Senza parlare del fatto che Layla ha sentito il suo profumo e potrebbe aver usato l'invisibilità come nella scena precedente al salvataggio dalle grinfie di Caym.
•Il buco nella palestra. Non so cosa sia ma è PALESE che rappresenterà una svolta cruciale.
•La madre di Roth. "Lucy". Sono certa che scatenerà farà un gran casino nei prossimi libri. Tra l'altro, il fatto che anche lei venga chiamata con diversi nomi non mi fa presagire nulla di buono... basta pensare alla madre di Layla.
•Lilith. Paimon ha detto due cose che mi hanno colpita: 1) il fatto che Lilith avesse un cuore di ghiaccio e 2) che è un mezzo per ottenere qualcosa. Sono proprio curiosa di sapere che cosa abbia in mente quella donna e se c'è qualcuno di cui voglia vendicarsi.
•Gli affreschi degli angeli in battaglia nell'edificio dove abita Roth. Non so perché ma il quadro potrebbe avere a che fare con una storia-rivelazione.
•L'avvertimento dell'indovino per Layla. Sono un pochino incerta ma non penso si sia ancora avverato.
•Il fatto che demoni e Guardiani lavoreranno insieme vuol dire che lavoreranno insieme e il trovare la "Piccola chiave" era solo l'inizio.
•Elijah. Non so cosa pensare ma mi aspetto o un tradimento alla sua specie nel senso che non si farà scrupoli ad eliminare qualcuno per arrivare a Layla oppure ci potrebbe essere un risvolto amoroso sula sua infatuazione per Lilith.
•La scena in cui Petr si trasforma in un mostro dagli occhi rossi quando Layla gli prende l'anima mi ha ricordato la storia raccontata in "Due candele per il diavolo". Nel libro l'amico (per modo di dire) demone della protagonista le racconta di quando alcuni angeli si sono ribellati e sono stati puniti bloccandoli giù. Ciò mi fa presupporre che il fatto che siano Guardiani o demoni non conta nulla e compiendo determinate azioni si possa "cambiare fazione".
•Inquisizione. Non è che ci sono anche le streghe?
•L'ascensore. Qualcuno andrà giù o qualcuno verrà su. Sicuro come l'oro.
•Chi ha evocato in precedenza i Lilin e chi li ha rinchiusi?
•Morris dov'è sparito?! E perché non può parlare?! Che cosa nasconde?!
•Cognome di Layla. Sono rimasta sorpresa nell'apprendere che abbia un cognome. Chissà se ha un significato particolare o se gliene hanno dato uno a caso. A me, per esempio, viene in mente George Bernard Shaw. xD
•Il clan di Dez che cosa è andato a fare fuori città? Chi è andato a cercare?!
•La morte della madre di Jasmine da parte di un demone di alto rango avrà un ruolo importante per la storia?
•Il demone che uccise il clan di Dez si ripresenterà per cercare vendetta?
Per concludere:
I vary between 3 and 4 stars because as you know 2,5 is an average book for me, nothing bad. (3 just isn't the half of 5 ahh) And this book has many very average elements in it that you just can't ignore in the rating.
But what if I just do exactly that? Then we have an unquestionable good book. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed reading it, I really did. It was better than Obsidian.
We have classic character sterotypes and a plot which has no surprises at all. However I liked our main character and this basic story. Sometimes you just need such books and well, that'f fine for me. I don't need to criticise every single book.
Nevertheless the ending was dull and I had the feeling it was just there to cause some drama and trigger emotions. This really could have been better. I never even had the thought Armentrout could make bad endings...
Besiiiides the last pages ("after the ending) were nice and I honestly don't get why they're two more books. The questions which where open could have been answered in book one - I mean it just could have been longer. Maybe that's just me!
Anyways I will read the other books :D

Sometimes I like to read "classic" YA books with a love triangle or a super hot boy etc. But sometimes I also critique those books and I think thats fine. I depends on the mood - so what? Always judging books takes the enjoyment out of reading.
But what if I just do exactly that? Then we have an unquestionable good book. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed reading it, I really did. It was better than Obsidian.

Jennifer Armentrout/ J. Lynn is now on auto-buy for me.
I was skeptical of two major points of this plot - a love triangle and the whole angels vs. demonsb cliche. But I thought Layla's background was fascinating, her relationship with the Zayne and the gargolyes interesting, her growing demonic side compelling, and her relationship with Roth steamy but appropriate for YA.

The overall plot was interesting and new. I hadn't ever come across a story about gargoyles and so this was awesome in that aspect. Plus a "good vs. evil" the overall idea was new and I loved it.
Now the main character Layla is half demon, yet half gargoyle which makes her enemy to both sides and yet NOT enemy either which creates a nice conflict and the fact that she is raised in a house of gargoyles who taught her all her life that demons were bad-which they are-but not entirely which was super fun to read about it and see what was really "bad" and what wasn't. However Layla isn't what she seems there is a lot of questions about her and her past in regards to her paternity and what not then she comes across a sexy hot demon named Roth who is and isn't what he appears to be. As they as characters progress you end up really liking Roth as a character and a person.
There is a love triangle...sort of but not really there is always this undertone of forbidden love on all 3 sides and it's crazy so if you like steamy scenes and love triangles this is it.
I really enjoyed the overall story and what new things Jennifer L. Armentrout brings in this new series. I look forward to book 2 and hope its not an eye rolling disappointment.

Omg I can't even describe my feelings for this book! Jennifer knows how to write! The witty comebacks, the feelings of anxiety, the scenes with sexual tension, all of it was written in a way that could be real! I am thoroughly pleased with this book! AND THAT ENDING!! I knew that the ending would ruin me and that I would need the next book right away, so it's a good thing I already own the rest of the series! And I gotta say, that I love Bambi! I hope that the second book says more about the kittens and Thumper! I can't wait! 1 MILLION STARS!! Recommend!! So good!
