Holy crap- that was so fast and so good!!! I already ordered the next one!!!

I didn't think I would like this when I first started. And honestly it wasn't grabbing my attention for the first few chapters. But then BAM! I couldn't put it down!!! I was once again completely sucked into another brilliant masterpiece by Jennifer Armentrout. I think I need to just accept that whatever she touches will melt my heart and completely leave me obliterated. This didn't disappoint.

I would give this book a 3 overall. I enjoyed reading it after awhile, but it still has lots of moments that it’s a YA novel written by an adult with some pretty cringy dialogue. I’ll still be continuing the series because I want to see where it goes, but it’s not a book I’m itching to recommend to everyone.

**Edit: the more I think about these books the more I dislike them. The cringy dialogue and lack of characters having any sort of depth are a hard pass for me. The further you read into the series, the worse it gets. Plus all of the references throughout. We get it, you watched supernatural and the avengers. Cool?

**NO MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS REVIEW**

Well...where did this book come from and why did it take me this long to read it. Figures, the first JLA book I ever try, obsidian i didnt like, but when i tried JLA again, i loved FBAA, and I figured I would try again, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was almost a teen/highschool vibe but with darker angst and more 'at stake'. I liked the writing, it wasnt too complex and there were not alot of info dumps. I like how she began to set up the world, since this is an intro novel. And I liked the pace, I felt it matched the tone of the book. And I couldfollow along with the fight scenes, love when that happens. There was just enough information to drop me into the world and care about the characters, but not enough to be overwhelming.

Speaking of chararacters, Layla is intriguing, I really like her innner monologue, she is definitely a teen girl, but she has alot more to deal with than just those pesky hormones. But I like that her narratiion is clouded by those knee jerk reactions, and feelings, it makes it more...real. I sometimes feel like in novels the teens try to act too grown up, but she just has her feelings and let the chips fall where they may. She is actually kinda of bad ass

And mmm, roth, my new spine ripping husband, helloooo, pleasure to meet your acquaintance. Tall, dark, handsome, and SASSSSY yessss, i love a sass king, pleaseee. He was soo funny and semi sexual, a great humor relief and I just loved every moment he was on the page. I alsolove the mythical story surrounding him and his powers, and such. He is just...ugh. I love him and need more.

Also I feel like Zayne is just confuzzled between duty and love, soooo, rip boyo

Alright, that is enough rambling. Remember, this is all my opinion, if you want your own, read the book.

I am so so happy I went back and read the sort of original prequel series to the harbinger (which I started with) I feel like having already storm and fury I appreciated white hot kiss even more in a different way but I almost enjoyed it MORE ? If possible. laya is a PHENOMENAL character. Again JLM attacks me with her beautiful writing style. Honestly one of the best books I’ve read in 2021!
