The writing is weak, and you can definitely see where the author pulled inspiration from other series. But he did a decent job of crafting an interesting world with character types that are fun to read, even if they aren’t very well developed (he tried though! He really did!)
I also need to give props to his attempt to circumvent some cliches.
Definitely not a new or inspired fantasy series, but an easy read that hits some good notes. Also, the MAIN main character (probably) is a well meaning bisexual disaster which is always a plus for me
