A little predictable, but interesting and scary nonetheless. I like Stroud's worlds, they are detailed and believable and disturbing and very clear. And alleluia there's never any teen romance in his books.
Loved the characters and the British setting, very exited to continue this series!

I surprised myself with how much I liked this YA book. I never read YA books and didn't even know this was one. Excellent for an adult to read, too. Interesting alternate reality of how the UK is overwhelmed by "The Problem", where ghosts are everywhere and everyone knows about them and how to usually best avoid them. I think I'll keep up with the series and this author's other books.

You can definitely tell that this book was written in the early 2010's and by a man...
However it is incredibly entertaining and at times suprisingly scary. I just couldn't put it down and when I was done I had to go straight to the second book.

This was a great mystery — I’m a sucker for cold cases. I loved the characters but George especially. He uses the library to research their cases!!!! The villain was menacing and the supernatural elements were delightfully chilling.
So. Why did I give it 4 stars? Fat jokes. Reoccurring. Har-har. Fat. Jokes. For f’s sakes. Stop. With. The. Fat. Jokes.

I watched the TV show first and this explained a lot that was unclear in the show (like how exactly ghost touch killed people) but the writing wasn’t as good and all the fat jokes towards George were really annoying. Overall enjoyable book but the show was better.
