It was definitely a fitting prequel! Although I could tell where it would start and stop just because I read Second Position already, it was still as enticing as the original book. The mannerisms that future Aly and Zed unconsciously held on to in SP were in natural use in this book. If you have the chance, I would definitely read SP before this just to get the full appreciation for A and Z's connection, but this isn't too bad of a starting position either.

Now to wait til August for Finding Center!

This is a sweet story and I definitely enjoyed it enough to read the rest of the series—but it contains a pregnancy loss element that I found unsettling, which I feel I should warn other readers about.

This book tells the story of Aly and Zed, two ballet dancer BFFs. I love how their friendship toes and eventually crosses over to the lovers life. They have such great relationship, which makes it a huge plus point in my continuing this series. That and the fact that Katherine Locke writes beautiful prose.

That being said, I rated this a 3 since the book is too short imo to give it 4. & I don't know why but I felt like I made a mistake reading this first instead of Second Position (the official first book in the series) because I feel that I'd definitely be more appreciative of this one had I read the former first, weird as it is.

I really loved the friendship between Zed and Aly. Their chemistry was electric and I liked all the doublespeak where they were talking about dance but also their relationship. There were a couple of details that felt wrong but the author did give a nice ballet atmosphere overall even if it wasn't the most scrupulously accurate. However the tragedy that struck at the end was just a little too much for me to want to go on that ride with the couple in the next book. I think I will remember them as they were in this book and not read farther to the damaged adults they became.

I downloaded this and its full length sequel on the recommendation of a very trusted friend who also adores ballet movies. And it didn't disappoint. It's a quick little novella - barely even 50 pages - but I'm already totally invested in Zed and Aly and their relationship. I'm glad I read the novella first, because it really sets things up nicely. So definitely check this out before you dive into Second Position, which is where I'm heading right now!

I'm so glad I found out this existed before I started the novel...which I'm starting this minute I finish writing this review. I'm already in love with both Zed and Aly and I'm excited to see where their stories go.

Woooooh these two were so cute, and I loved the glimpse into their relationship before the first book. But crying, SUCH A PAINFUL ENDING.
