This was incredible, but very hard to read at times.  Akwaeke Emezi is a fantastic storyteller who was able to create an amazing, emotional, whimsical story that was so very dark and heartbreaking, but with a message that was so very optimistic.  What a masterpiece!

This book was great! I loved the themes and plot of it. I wasn't quite sure what the 'angels' were and the 'monsters'. Though that became very apparent at the ending. I thought it was a beautiful story about friendship and helping each other.

I struggled to rate this as either a 3 or 4, so I went for the middle.

Pet is a short book at just over 200 pages. I originally found it when searching for middle grade books with LGBT+ characters, but this is definitely not MG. It’s YA, but minus the swearing and the overall theme, kinda reads like MG.

It’s a fairly quick read and the story’s pace is fairly quick. I did enjoy the story overall, but I just would have loved for it to be a bit longer and maybe include more world building. The concept is very interesting but isn’t really developed further than finding the monster in Redemption’s house

I really wanted to like this, but I just couldn't get into it. Everything was so wrapped in metaphor that it lost any emotional impact for me. The message was a nice one, and I could see it being good for a younger audience, but it was so abstract. It just didn't hit me quite right.
