This was the last Nikki Heat book I had on my physical TBR list and it was my least favorite. It was too similar to what happened in a season of Castle. It was a little too predictible for my taste. I might pick up more Nikki Heat books in the future, but right now I am taking a break because I was very underwhelmed with this book.

Dude, it's Castle, don't expect anything else from me.
It broke me. Also that ending. 😭❤️

3 and a half for how true the characters stayed to the characters we know on tv--yet again. I don't remember the f-word being used as often in passed books. I am thinking this is the last heat and Rook book since the series ended this season. I have enjoyed these books and really thought they got better the second half over the first few.

Death is also like a box of chocolates.

Either these books are getting better, or I've lowered my standards just enough to enjoy them. This one was actually a very pleasant read. I'm still not entirely sure how we got to the conclusion, this was a pretty twisted ride. But a fun one.

I realize I live in a much smaller town than New York City. I'm New Orleans adjacent, and we get our fair share of crime around here. Even murders.

But if I were to believe everything I read in these books, police detectives are in way more peril than I give them credit for. The kidnappings alone.

With the show being over, having these books to read is a small comfort, I will admit. Including the poor man's Nathan Fillion doing the narration.

Also, fun fact. Literally less than five minutes after I finished this audiobook, I saw this flying above a parking lot.

Got a little uncomfortable, not going to lie.

This one was a little rougher than the first several in the series, making me suspect a new writer. I found myself doing a lot of skimming and rolling my eyes at what was the novel equivalent of product placement in a TV show, but still a nifty read, generally.

Another great read by the writers of Castle. If you enjoy the TV series you will enjoy this companion book series. The writing is tight and I love how they throw in little Easter eggs for both Nathan Fillion as well as the TV series.

Yes, the Castle books are cheesy, but enjoyable. And of course I pictured the characters from the tv show while reading this. I always do. Nonetheless, it was a good read. Very entertaining.

Another suspenseful Nikki Heat murder mystery - The writing and plot line are ok, not as good as the show itself.

A light and fluffy read that is not too taxing on the brain. It's hard not to picture the actors from the TV series - a similar chemistry from the screen appears on the page.
