ARC Review
Duplicity is the second book in the Seraph Series by Elodie Hart.
Having read almost everything she's written, I was super excited to be chosen to receive this ARC.
She did not disappoint. I'm still trying to wrap my head around everything I read this weekend.
I'm going to give a very brief synopsis then tell you my thoughts.
Marlowe is a single mother to 8 year old Tabby. Tabby with born with a bad pulmonary valve and has already been through 2 open heart surgeries to replace said valve. She's out growing the valve she has now and she's getting weaker and weaker. Marlowe and the doctors are afraid that Tabby won't make it to the next available surgery date. A private hospital could fix Tabby right up but the costs aren't feasible. Marlowe decides the only option is to take a job with the Seraph Agency as a "full-service" EA... She goes to work for Mr Brendan Sullivan who has been obsessing over her for months.
Ok...so the audition happens and they decide to work together. Work begins and so do the fireworks.
Brendan is an entitled man-child. He likes Marlowe but treats her like an expensive toy that he can do whatever he wants with. Marlowe puts up him because she's a mama bear who's fighting for her daughter's life and she believes that deep down Brendan is a good man.
This book is so much more than a romance. This book will make you look at how you deal with the people in your life. Do you appreciate or take for granted? Are you appreciated or taken for granted. Are you interested in the lives of those who take of you? Are those you take care of interested in your life? Do you feel safe? Needed? Are you an expensive accessory? Marlowe is an expensive accessory. She's intelligent and hard working. She's a mother fighting to save her daughter. But
Brendan doesn't think about those things, often. When he starts to think about her as a person he realizes that she could be more than the way he treats her.... And that makes him think that maybe he's not the good guy he thought he was.
This book is so much more than a romance. But if you're looking for romance...it's soooo there. It's beautiful. And the spice is perfection! This book made me think and made me so angry at Brendan. I cheered for Marlowe. I worried for Tabby.
The end of the book was just what I needed it to be.
Elodie Hart has proven to me that she has a way with words and tells stories that mean something as well as are entertaining. I can't say enough about this book.
Thank you Sara Madderson/Elodie Hart for sharing this beautiful story with me as an ARC....I cannot wait for the world to see what we see in you!

I’m so glad that Elodie has diverted into the Seraph world. It was the perfect instalment and still kept us in the same headspace from Audacity that we know and love.
Marlowe was a beautiful FMC to witness, her unwavering love and care for her child was so heart-warming to read about. That woman is the epitome of “if she could, she would”. Whilst Brendan drove me mad at times, he was just what Marlowe needed in life. And under all that typical f-boy exterior he was the ultimate cinnamon roll or those he cares about. And that shone through in spades once he allowed everyone to see that.
If you’re looking for a book that gives you all the emotional resilience, care, a love that isn’t built just on chemistry but one of connection and vulnerability. Oh and not to mention that delicious smutty smut then Duplicity is the one for you.
