As always the spice was spicing and office/workplace power dynamic sex work can never not be hit to me, and the grovel was fantastic. However, the whole beginning is kind of a slog because of Marlowe’s weird purity culturish outlook and pride? She simultaneously calls herself a ho, slut, hooker—pretty much every degrading name for a SWer you can think of—but refuses to use the money her friend, who is engaged to a billionaire and has been a SWer for years before and probably a millionaire in her own right at this point, offers to SAVE HER DAUGHTER’S life. And calls Athena’s money blood money/dirty but for some reason it’s neither of those things if she does it herself. She’ll do anything to save her daughter except swallow her pride apparently.

I get that the hidden undertones of Catholic guilt are kind of Elodie/Sara’s thing, but the books where the FMC takes power rather than shame from sex are always way more interesting, especially when the first book in the series already had soooo much Catholic guilt for the MMC. Looking forward to the next one because it seems like both characters might be a little more liberated.

This was...a lot. It was definitely challenging for me as a reader because it touched on tropes that I'm not generally a fan of. The sex work and the real wanker behavior of the MMC was a lot to process. Probably won't read any more from this series but it was fascinating nonetheless, just not for me.

DID NOT FINISH: 66%

I don’t even want to see him grovel after that.
fast-paced

I actually enjoyed this one a fair bit. The beginning seemed a little dragged out, but I also appreciated that we got to know the characters and their stories before their interactions began. The smut was smutting, and for the most part I liked it. I also appreciated the resolution, it was tidy. I wish that Brendan hadn’t done that one thing though, that would be hard to come back from in my opinion. But overall, an enjoyable read for sure! I’m not super interested in the other ones, but I also might read them at some point? Glad to hop back into a decent book though after a little break.
