— such a departure from the usual colleen hoover stories that i love to hate on… and this one was quite good.
though not as filled with salacious turns and twists as i was promised, and an ending that left me feeling a bit disappointed, the pace and momentum built were incredible and probably my favorite part.
súper accesible for first time thriller readers and one of the first few times booktok hasn’t lied to my face

I was nervous going into my first CoHo book, but lots of people said this one was different than her others... and I actually COULD NOT put it down! I read it in one sitting. It was very suspenseful and I'm probably not sleeping tonight.

Absolutely insane. I knew the twist was coming but I did not expect that.

Overall, I am unfortunately disappointed by this book. I went back and forth between giving it 2 or 3 stars. I ultimately bumped it up because it is a pretty interesting premise and I like the way she ended the book with allowing us to choose whether or not to believed the letter. (2.5 stars)
With all the time I spend on BookTok/Bookstagram, I see so many posts about CoHo and tried to be thoughtful about the first book of hers that I read. I'm not sure I made the right choice, because I don't think I'll be picking up another book of hers anytime soon.
First of all, I am a sucker for good prose. I have loved books that don't have the best plot but have authors who have a great way with words. This was the opposite--good plot, but really poor writing quality. I couldn't help but think that I wish someone else wrote this, because it could have been done so much better. The romance between Jeremy and the main character was not very believable. The fact that they started sleeping together while his wife and son were in the room upstairs was so creepy and I don't understand why it happened. If their connection had been written and explored better, I may have been on board with the whole thing. It was also a little weird that Lowen was not disturbed by all of Jeremy's murder attempts and thought it was a perfectly normal response to the situation. There was no exploration of the fear or mixed emotions that I think any normal person would feel when in a relationship and having a baby with someone who is capable of murdering his wife. Overall, it was just alright. The real tragedy here is for Crew-the poor kid is surrounded by psychos.
Would love to know--who is team manuscript and who is team letter?
