If I had a dollar for every time I thought the mystery was finally solved and then it wasn’t, I would be rich. At first I enjoyed all of the bait-and-switches, but after a while they just became clunky, repetitive, and lost their shock factor. However, the intrigue and duality shrouding all of the characters worked hard to make the story more fascinating.
In general, though, this book bamboozled me more than anything else. I could barely keep up with all of the new information and suspects. Needless to say, I related to Hastings greatly regarding that point.
As always, I loved the dynamic between Poirot and Hastings, and the romance between the latter and Cinderella was very charming and sweet.
Overall, I enjoyed this book, but it is certainly not the most sleek and charismatic of Christie’s.
