Very cute ghost story for kids. Really enjoyed reading this to my daughter. An interesting take on the correspondence format.

That was absolutely lovely. I liked the illustrations, the different lettertypes (normally I hate that), also the way everything was done in the way of letters or like a chat was a nice touch.

Also liked how the characters changed and how 2 found love. :)

Can't wait to read the rest of the books. :)

This is a cute first chapter type book. Ghosts are involved, but in a Casper the friendly ghost kind of way. Quick read, good for boys and girls.

2.5 stars. I loved the concept, but didn't love the execution.

Clever multi-format short novel for older elementary students employs newspapers, letters, computer work, and drawings to tell the story of Ignatius B. Grumbly, a popular ghost story writer who has had writer's block for 20 years, who rents a ramshackle old Victorian house in Ghastly, IL, for the summer in hopes of being inspired. The resident 11-year-old Seymour Hope, abandoned by his paranormal-researching parents, his cat, and his friend, the ghost of an unpublished Victorian author, try to get Mr. Grumbly out of the house with various threats, notes, annoying piano playing and door-slamming, and even a falling chandelier. However, he is undeterred, and as we learn about the cause of his writer's block and money woes, we also see what can changes can be made with kindness and open minds and hearts. First in a series. Good for students who enjoy witty word play and for reluctant readers. Ages 8-12.

3.5 stars. Cute juvenile fantasy (one of the main characters is a ghost) told through letters. Grades 2-5.
