I loved it! Short and sweet, but i didn’t feel like i was missing anything! It also kind of gave me Rip and Beth vibes.
The only thing that i didn’t like about it was that it just felt like a present day romance. What i mean is that, in the canon of the Gold Rush Ranch series, Ada and Dermot are Vaughn and Cole’s grandparents, so i would’ve loved to see little tidbits that dated them. It could’ve been just minute details like giving a year for the pickups they’re driving, or some store or product that’s not around anymore, anything that would’ve put my minds eye into a different era.

Read this as a Buddy Read so posting my thoughts from there here.
Up to Chapter 3
Prequels are always interesting to me. I actually rarely read novellas in a series they just don't hold interest to me. I can tell I'm going to like this though.
Ada is already fun and determined. And shes trying to pretend she doesn't feel for him still.
Dermot is nice.
I don't really think 10 years is much difference between adults. Shes still very young at 21 and him 31. There is a stark difference in maturity in most people when you compare early twenties to early thirties. I'm 31 now this year and I can't relate much to the 20 year old apprentice...
Up to Chapter 5
Oooooh. Shes jealous. I think that reaction was expected based on her actions and what we read from her perspective.
This is short but the tension is nice.
Up to Chapter 7
So Dermot suffers from ptsd clearly. Hes going to be a complex character. The back firing incident was sad to read. I thought it was nice how she handled it.
Ada feels young to me. Shes a little immature and that makes me question their romance a little bit. Shes not unlikeable but I feel a novella isn't going to be enough to figure her out.
Up to Chapter 9
Ooh no they were caught.
Her dad so knows. Its probably really obvious they're both smitten with each other and they think theyre being subtle
Finished
Short romances are nice for a change when you've been reading a longer book.
This gave me the happy feeling I look for when reading romances.
Excited to get to book 1 and see what this was setting up for.

This wasn’t a bad novella, I just didn’t care for these characters.
