I read this alongside my first reading of the Silmarillion. It was helpful to look things up as I read but i think some liberties were taken.

This is a fun read.

This goes into all the things related to Tolkien's world of Middle-Earth. The things that inspired characters, the places and other things.

I really enjoyed all that the author David put in here. I love learning all I can about this fantasy world and the things that created this amazing world.

It was an interesting read and learned a lot about the different mythologies that inspired this world.

I really enjoyed this book.

While this book did not go as in depth as I would have wished considering it is a Tolkien encyclopedia, it did have lots of information. The illustrations and charts provide more insight into the world of Arda and allows some of the lore to be more digestible. However, some of the passages were repeated several times throughout the encyclopedia and I personally feel as if there is too much space dedicated to terms that are not part of Arda/Middle-Earth. It is interesting to know how Tolkien was influenced by other cultures/myths/stories, but I was hoping this encyclopedia would be centered around only Tolkien's writings.

I think it’d be better if I used it as an encyclopedia while reading the books rather than just reading it, but it was still informative and accurate. I liked seeing how Tolkien used mythology for inspiration.

Although I don't believe this is authorized by the Tolkien Estate, i found it very informative for the person just starting to explore the history and basis of the LOTR and Hobbit. The illustrations are very good. There are diagrams showing various battles, genealogy and the history of the Rings of Power. I enjoyed reading it and plan to purchase a copy for my personal library.
