Interesting read but I truly cannot understand the hype.
There are quite a few things I don’t agree with. And while it’s fine for everybody to have a different opinion, it’s the preaching tone of the book that’s probably put me off the most.
Nevertheless there are also a couple points that ring a bell and might be worth contemplating over a bit more.
Overall a quick and easy read.

I’ve read several self help/creativity books now and I usually walk away with the thought of “well, I get what they were trying to say and that’s cool, even if it’s a little hokey” but that was absolutely not the case with this book. It was all very impactful and built on itself well. I devoured it!

This was good, not great! I read it because it was recommended cause I saw Olivia Rodrigo suggested it. I knew immediately it wouldn’t change my life, but I wish I read it in college when I had writing to do. It was a big motivation book, and I took some key points away for sure! I would recommend this to young high schoolers transitioning into college. I liked her writing style, it was casual but not too casual. I want to read eat pray love next.

An inspiring book that one can tear through. Gilbert does a good job discussing what her thoughts on creativity are and how to live a more creative life. While I agree with her, I wonder the practical aspect of some of what she says as it seems too easy. Overall, there are some solid ideas in this book but it may lack some specifics steps. The book is definitely inspiring.
