Too many words and self-interested stories used to explain the simplest of things. It feels like she wrote this book for herself, using what reads to me as a collection of pep-talks to self and "remember when" diary entries to illustrate and validate why she is the way she is and thinks the way she thinks.

I read over 50% of this book but honestly did not inspire me. Way too conversational.
I started this book a long time ago but for whatever reason ( probably that I was juggling several books at once) I forgot to get back to it. I knew I’d loved what I’d read already but life just moved on and I forgot. The other day after I’d finished a mediocre book on audible, I wanted something else to shift my reading mood. I opened up my audio copy of Big Magic, and started over and the minute I heard Elizabeth Gilbert’s voice, I was home again. She is an excellent writer and even though many people rave about her fiction books, they did not grab me and I have yet to finish one. But her non fiction books ( particularly read by her) feel like a friend sitting across from you engaging in a very good discussion or sharing her deepest thoughts and discoveries. I really enjoyed EPL and Committed but THIS ONE was very special. I am glad I have a paper copy so I can go back and read it again and even highlight many parts. I don’t give many 5 stars on GR but this one was easy to rate. I’d highly recommend it to almost anyone. So many precious nuggets within this book and I love the way it’s sectioned out. Just read it. Or better yet, let Liz read it to you!
