Please don't expect a coherent review because this is mostly overtired babbling but anyway...

If you think the first book is dark then oh boy do I have news for you!

The thing with these books is that despite the spelling / grammar mistakes, being confusing to read, the fact that it could probably do with an editor all fall by the wayside when stacked against wanting to know what happens to these damaged characters.
Seeing the mysteries of their lives unfolding, the horrific incidents they've been through / go through, the constant tension of when they'll 'go too far' just absolutely grab hold of you. Or they did for me anyway!
I read almost all of this book in one day; I stayed up until 2am last night to finish it.

And christ there are some horrible disturbing scenes in this book. But all I can think about is that I wish I had today off to read the last book 😅
What sorcery is this??

CW: violence, blood, vomit, rape, child abuse, paedophilia, toxic relationships, death, murder, kidnapping, torture, forced medication, drugs, alcohol, homophobia, religious

It’s horrible, it’s amazing. I hate it, I’m obsessed. I have zero interest in most sports, I am DIYing a Palmetto State Jersey. My Lock Screen is the Foxes’ logo. I made a bookmark with the team’s lineup and logo. I was in a horrible reading slump for almost a month and absolutely devoured this in three days. They’re evil little monsters with mountains of trauma out for their own survival, they’ll self sacrifice and murder for each other without a blink. The team is finally learning to come together just as they’re being torn apart. They don’t give two sh*ts. They care so f*cking much. The odds are so high against them it’s impossible. I can’t wait to watch them destroy everyone at semi-finals.

The content warnings are almost as long as the review, the list keeps going. And yet…

Reading isn’t enough. I need to inject this into my bloodstream.
I cannot recommend this to any of my friends. I am desperate for someone to infect with it. I need someone to go insane with me.

oh my god.

Honestly didn't expect such a good sequel to the first book, which was too unorganized. Im still not the biggest fan of the writing, but it's decent. The book solved a lot of issues I had at first, especially regarding the characters. You could definitely feel that the author invested way more time into the sequel.
The dynamic is even better now, after we finally got some reasonable explanation on why some of them act the way they do. But I wished that the mc would've gone at least once to the psychiatrist like the other characters did, because those were my favorite interactions.

The coach Wymack definitely is my favorite character and the scene at the end broke my heart.

Neil, Wymack called him, even when he looked like this, even with his father's face and his father's eyes and the Moriyamas' number on his face. Neil, Wymack called him, and more than anything Neil wanted it to be true.
He stopped fighting to get free; the hands that had been trying to wrench Wymack's arms off him now held on for dear life. "Help me," he said through gritted teeth. "Let me," Wymack shot back, so Neil closed his eyes.

He was their family. They were his. They were worth every cut and bruise and scream.

All in all it was way more devastating than the first book that I had to put it down twice, just to organize my thoughts and stare into my wall for 10min.
