P good sans the homophobic line in my opinion. Great character development. Intense conflict of appropriate magnitude in relation to the timeline in the series and progress of the characters. Everyone gets a decent character arc and role to play. V nice endings and resolutions to individual conflicts. Overall good.
Not too happy with Snorri's resolution and lack of involvement but the outcome wasn't unjust. Still waiting on a proper explanation of the world building and time period after that massive detail that was mentioned offhandedly in Syren. Like you can't just say that and not explain how the world got to this point honestly. HOW I NEED TO KNOWWWW. That's probably the most fascinating part of this story. There's only one other series with this premise.
One more book and I'm done. Idk if I'll be relieved or if I'm gonna be craving more...

Second Read:
The Domaine seemed like an un-Merrin thing to do, stretching the hatred too far. Darke Halls were underwhelming. Still couldn't put it down though

First Read:
Anticlimatic way of finding Alther and getting rid of the Domaine. 3 stars

This is the one I read last but I can't quite remember anything about it. At this point in time, my interest in the series had already waned. I remember enjoying though, so all I can say is I think this series is best read back to back, and is still a great series for its demographic.
Finally finished this book! I took such a long time to finished it, but it is not because Darke is not a good book. It's brilliant, it's my second favorite Septimus Heap series, after Physik, right above Syren.
This book is where Septimus has to do his darke week, as a part of being Senior Apprentice for ExtraOrdinary Wizard. The task he chose by himself is, as has been guessed, really outstanding and hard to achieve. Well, it has something to do with Alther but no, it's not brought him back to life. Another interesting event is Jenna and Septimus 14th birthday, when Jenna got his Queen rules book. It was cool (and funny) to know some of the Queen rules, especially the one related to Marcia as the ExtraOrdinary wizard. Also, Spit Fyre, by the end of the book, became an adult dragon! *wait, that is not a spoiler, yes?*
This book is full of action, even the tense has been built since early chapters due to the anticipation of Septimus' Darke Week. No dull page, in my opinion. This book is recommended for every Septimus Heap fans (yea yea, of course) and to fantasy fiction fans, although you really have to read from the first book: Magyk. Septimus Heap is the kind of series you can't just jump to the middle of it. But trust me, you won't regret it by reading from the first book!
Oh, actually, the part I like the most from this book?
Beetle is the new Chief Hermetic Scribe! (Well, I have predicted it to happen when Jillie Djinn died, but still he is my favorite character, so, yeay!)

This is my FAVOURITE Septimus Heap book yet. A (deserved) redemption arc, a character unexpectedly gaining access to magic, Ms Marcia Overstrand at her finest, and overall so much plot and character development that all worked so well... let me rest...
Angie Sage does it again with Darke, which turns out to be my second-favorite among the Septimus Heap stories. The Magyk, the plot, the characters, everything is woven together so well in this story that takes place over only a few days all within (mostly) the same city.
