Marco is my favorite character and his first book is so interesting and compelling. Not only do you get to see how different he is to the impressions the other characters have of him, but you really get to understand how he's very touched by death and growing up too fast.

It's also interesting going back to reread this if you've finished the main series once before. It casts a kind of light about where he ends up in the end.

I love all of the kids but Marco is my least favorite (sorry, Marco) so his books generally aren't all that exciting for me. But man, the reveal at the end!

Marco's mom is Visser One

So many feelings! It's great when the typical jokester breaks down and shows the emotional side. I'm a sucker for that trope.

Also, someone really just needs to effing kill Visser Three already. I'm still so pissed about what he did to Elfangor.
