Fun 50s-set sci-fi

Red Venus is a fun, nostalgic slice of sci-fi about a Soviet crew’s mission to Venus. When they land they discover the planet is riddled with wild beasts intent on killing them, an American crew whose leader suspiciously wants to defect, and a crew member who goes oddball after a puff of fungus spores infect him.
I enjoyed the unusual perspective of the Soviets, the action is frantic and panicky, and the characters are all in full 3D. I would have liked to have heard more about the American leader’s motivation and Schmidt’s new mindset, but it didn’t spoil the fun. You’ll read it in a day.
