3.96 AVERAGE

Really a 4.5 because it is a little up its own butt with some of its praise and there are certain passages that haven't aged well. HOWEVER, rounding up because it's a fun read and I freaking love Jaws. This is written by the screenwriter of the film and is basically a diary (written after the fact) of the making of the movie. It came out at the same time as the film so it's truly a snapshot of what they thought in 1975. Very interesting, very entertaining, a great companion to the movie.

DID NOT FINISH

Oof. Very fun and interesting, but more technical film focused than Im up for.
funny informative lighthearted fast-paced

Essential…if you haven’t read about and watched Jaws a lot for decades.
informative medium-paced

I'm more than a little biased considering I've long held Jaws as my favorite movie of all time, but this was absolutely fantastic. I gladly devoured the entire thing in two days and strongly suggest that anyone who loves movies should do the same.

Making of written contemporaneously. Excellent.

An absolute classic in the behind-the-scenes production journal genre.

I was expecting more of a tumultuous account of the legendary events surrounding the filming. Perhaps it was just Gottlieb's laid-back style that made the filming sound not quite as disastrous as I had imagined. A different account with interviews from the cast and crew might prove to be more engaging.
