I went back and forth on whether to rate this 4.5 or 5 stars. Because this is so good. Seriously so. good. But it’s not quite as good as Daisy Darker or Rock Paper Scissors. Ultimately, I had to give the full 5 stars. Because it. hit. Like always with this author, the setting is brilliantly isolated and secrecy and danger and intrigue lurk in every. single. corner. The MC, Grady, was… there and was an MC but, truly, despite my annoyance, was realistic and read that way throughout. The mystery of his wife’s disappearance was wonderfully revealed and I couldn’t have predicted it. I do wish for a bit MORE, especially with the redwoods (the tree lore was drastically underexplored) and the singing sands. And a few minor things were slight misses for me (which I cannot elaborate on because spoilers). OVERALL, a great thriller, which is unsurprising for Feeney.

I’m so conflicted on this book like one minute I’m like omg I loved it and then the next I’m like wait what the hell. I think I read it in too much of a rush. Definately would read this author again!

What was real? What was fake? You may find yourself being as confused as the main character. Would recommend. Absolutely love the island idea.

Definitely great plot twists, but I am realizing I had way too high of hopes/expectations for this book considering I kept seeing it everywhere and it kept popping up. Generally won’t be a memorable story for me, but I guess I enjoyed the journey well enough to make it through. It’s original, just not that gripping.
