Dive deeper into the world of RWBY with this gorgeous fairy tale book.

OK, I must confess that I haven’t watched the show, yet. The show sounds amazing, and the manga I read set in the world was fantastic… but the style of animation is just NOT my cup of tea. But who knows, I may just check the show out because I want to delve deeper in this very interesting world.

This book is a collection of fairy tales/stories/tales from the world of Remnant. It is collected by a man named Professor Ozpin who also has penned an intro + notes to go with each story. From the start I was just in the stories, they are wonderfully told and I love the style. We read about various origin stories (from Grimm to Faunus), we see cautionary tales about what not to do (like don’t go in the woods when you are warned about it being dangerous), we read stories on decisions and destinies. I had so much fun reading them. Yes, 1 or 2 stories just didn’t grab me, but thankfully there were plenty of stories that I loved. Like the brother and sister one which just broke my heart. Or the one with the wonderful and wise king who was wondering what to do when he received a crown that told the future (or at least part of it) and he wasn’t sure what to do with it. I also really loved the story of the princess stuck in a tower (heavily reminding me of Rapunzel, just without the hair.

I liked the notes at the end, though sometimes they went on a bit too long for my taste. I would have rather seen them shorter.

The art, WOW. That was just a beautiful thing. I loved the big picture at the start of the stories, but also love the illustrations that followed.

All in all, I would highly recommend this book to all. I can honestly say that I could read this one without a lot of knowledge on the world of RWBY. It was easy to follow and the tales were lovely.

This book is a companion to the lore of RWBY in one of the best ways. One of my favorite ways of world building is creating stories within stories. That is the entire book. It was also a great insight into characters we don't often hear from like Glynda and other professors.

My favorite part of this book however is counting how many times Ozpin appears. Or at least his iterations. There are at least two I can name off the top of my head. These stories that are just Oz cataloging his past lives really highlights his line "I have made more mistakes than any man, woman, and child on this earth."
