I had hundreds of questions by the time I finished reading this book.
No idea that this book was a recipient of Sandor Marai prize, I picked this book only after being mildly curious of the cover, and few minutes later after reading the blurb.
I had to stop reading, absorb all the narration from the point of 11-year-old, and continue reading.

I also had mixed emotions while reading.
The wait for Djata's father expecting a gift for his mother for their anniversary.
The temper for the injustice.
The thoughtful emotion on 11-year-old Djata's perception for everything surrounding him.
The old man's farce loyalty towards the totalitarian system but inwardly searching for Djata's father.
The football.
The state security system.
The forced labour camps.
And the ending.
I forever can remember Djata running behind his father as his father is taken away.

This was really a hard book to get through. Stream of consciousness narratives are already not my favorite, but it was also just really hard to get ahold of what was happening, not to mention how depressing everything was. Life in a totalitarian state must be awful.
