Scherzi a parte, erano davvero anni che volevo leggere questo libro e finalmente ci sono riuscita!
Devo dire che capisco perchè abbia tutto questo successo come serie e anche io ne sono rimasta molto intrigata.
La trama penso sia abbastanza conosciuta, parliamo di una serie di retelling in chiave sci-fi e in questo primo romanzo affrontiamo la storia di Cenerentola.
Quindi si parla di Cinder, un cyborg a Nuova Pechino che soffre le angherie della famiglia adottiva e che fa il meccanico nel mercato e le uniche due persone a cui tiene davvero sono la più piccola delle sue sorellastre e il suo androide Iko. Tutto si sconvolge quando il principe Kai, futuro imperatore del paese e giovane decisamente affascinante, chiederà alla nostra protagonista di aggiustare il suo androide personale che contiene informazioni riservate e pericolose. La storia è inserita in un mondo nuovo e fantascientifico costruito molto bene e che si scopre piano piano nel libro. Trovo l'idea molto originale così come l'unione di tanti elementi diversi: l'umanità, la 'magia', i cyborg.. È una storia tutta da scoprire.
I punti positivi positivi per me sono soprattutto i personaggi che sono ben costruiti, soprattutto Cinder che mi è piaciuta molto, e la parte legata all'ambientazione e al mondo creato che anche se ha ancora molto da dare, mi ha affascinato moltissimo. Inoltre lo stile è scorrevolissimo e tiene incollati alle pagine.
Purtroppo però mi ha un pò rovinato il fatto che tutte le grandi scoperte e rivelazioni, io le avessi capite ai primi capitoli. E forse la relazione tra i personaggi, per quanto sia tenera, è stata troppo frettolosa e basata su troppo poco
Però nonostante questo, è stata una lettura che mi è piaciuta e non vedo l'ora di continuare la serie!

This book was AMAZING! I can't believe it's taken me so long to start this series.. Annoyingly I don't have the second book but I have literally ordered it just now and I can't wait to continue this story!!

I did really enjoy my reread! I'm annoyed at how long it took me to read however! I'm not too sure why it did take me as long as it did but netherless I did enjoy the story! I now can't wait to reread Scarlet!
I can’t believe I’ve been seeing this book in shelves for half my life and never bothered to read it. I enjoyed it a lot— the cyberpunk take on grimm fairytales was so entertaining and intriguing. I loved all those easter eggs. It was a fun book to try to predict plot points of, and although some of it was predictable, the writing flowed very well and the characters are easy to fall in love with. currently on the fourth book, and nothing about that has changed. definitely worth reading for those who love fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, and a bit of romance. To me, the setting kinda felt like a version of star wars or rebecca yarros’ carve the mark only because of the space and inter-planet travel/relations, which is a theme i love.

this has been on my to read list for ages, and I'll be honest, it was mainly the original cover that kept me from actually getting to it. now that I've read it, I really like it and am curious how the sequels continue.
I love rewrites of classic tales and have read a few, and this one is definitely up there in the better to best range for me.
+ different cultural setting
+ interesting protagonist with sense of wit
+ political issues (i love when there are realistic political disputes and problems)
+ not too light hearted in that there is death and risk around
+ even if somewhat predictable as far as twists/plotline go, it's still interesting to see how it will happen

I disliked this book so much. Every (and I do mean Every. Single. One) female character that spoke (except for the MC, and one future MC) was either evil or a bit stupid/naive and died and every male character that spoke or was mentioned a lot was a good guy. The evil queen doesn't seem to have any character but Evil and Queen (and maybe beautiful) and while I'm all for an irredemeably bad character once again she was so so boring and I can't forgive that. The Prince and Cinder had no chemistry whatsoever, she is not like other girls and he loves that and he is good looking and that should be enough. I guess. Also Monarchy is good and having ID Chips in every wrist leads to no problems whatsover.
The idea is cool though and it did kind of help me through a reading slump. So... two stars
