If you loved Addie LaRue and the Midnight Library like I did, this novel is for you! Very interesting plot and I liked the magical realism. I was a bit disappointed in the ending around the puzzle ball. I was expecting something more profound. Overall it was super good!

The opening paragraph is one of my favorite things I’ve ever read because of the vivid scenery and emotions. The author paints a beautifully descriptive story that meanders around in time (which I enjoyed since I rarely read anything non-chronological).
I enjoyed reading it but some parts bugged me—the language used by the characters feels too modern, there are a couple spots where the names/locations don’t match the time period, and, most importantly to me, the main character is a woman clearly written by a man. Two thirds of the book is over before we get more than a mention of another woman and even that feels more like a male character who was given a female appearance. We only get to know details of Aubry through her interactions with men.

Interesting premise, fun adventures along the way, but the end… what was the ending?? I feel like it was never resolved. Maybe I fell asleep.

This is a story that’s easy to fall right into and go along for the ride. A sweeping adventure in magical realism. I wish there had been more backstory given, more explanation and maybe justification for Aubry’s malady, but I loved that she was a survivor who learned and grew through the story.

Loved this book. Loved the main character, the non-linear story, the minor characters, the descriptions. Such a great read! Highly recommend.
I liked it most of the time. But it did get long winded at parts. Not sure I like the ending.
