Every time I'm like, don't kill him, Romeo. Don't kill him, Romeo. And then he kills him, and everything goes to hell. And no matter how much I shake the book or smack it against the wall, by the end of Act Five, R&J are dead. Stupid play.

Kinda hard to understand especially if you get the non-translated version, but it was a very touching story.

i have always been obsessed with this story and its legacy, so finally reading the full play was incredible for me. the story is in fact great and the characters were so dramatic and expressive that they made it all the more vivid and involving.
the old english was a little hard to get into, but, once i got the hang of it, the story flowed and i came to love the writing. there were many beautiful passages 🥺

read it in freshman English in 2017, hated it. bad memories associated with the book due to the class. story-wise, not my cup of tea. I love romances but not when the main love interests are as reckless as they are. the drama wasn’t necessary, both in the families and between the two lovers. most likely not going to reread or view the work unless going to see a live performance.
