I seem to find myself on an unexpected excursion into the works of Robert Louis Stevenson. I was living under the presumption that I wouldn't care for his work, that's entirely incorrect as I am completely intrigued by the diversity in his stories. What does shine through (two books in...) is a focus on morals and ethical dilemmas.

This short story, which rings too true to the ears of a former medical student who can still vividly remember her time behind the anatomy tables, makes a big statement: nothing can rid a person of their unaccounted for sins. There is nothing for it but facing up to them.

I may have read this in high school. The reveal wasn't a surprise, nor was the ending.
The story is atmospheric though and it's easy for the reader to place themselves in the time period and get the creep factor.
The Victorians seemed to be fascinated with death. That apparently is due to the French enlightenment and there is a joke about Voltaire in the book which is funny.
It's a very short story and can be read in less than thirty minutes.

The creepy ambience was very present. I've hear this reading on a bright, sunny day and yet still felt the spooky feeling, like I was somewhere in the dark, dank, foggy streets of Edinburgh. 4 starts on the writing and 5 stars on the narration.

This is another short story of which I really liked the buildup and the deterioration of the characters psyche, but I was a little bit confused and underwhelmed by the ending.

This story shows how grim society was 200 years ago, and how people could just 'disappear' all too easily.

We have all heard the stories about body snatchers and graverobbers back in the day. This another one of them, and it has a little mystery to it, and I guess a supernatural twist. I didn't think it was great, but maybe it was at the time?
