Sweet and easy read with lots of Illinois details. Loved the bird nesting information. Little bit of mystery, romance and natural history.

A splendid book! Lovely characters and a wide variety of things happen in the best way possible. The book has serious things, but approaches them with a bit of a lighthearted, childlike nature that makes you feel happy and resolved.
A very strange girl who claims she is from the stars and has alien powers shows up on your doorstep. From there only miracles happen as everyone bonds and heals from their own past trauma. I loved all these characters and how they all worked together to give a lost girl a safe and loving home.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book, particularly the relationship that developed between Ursa and Jo, which began early on. Jo, the main character working on her Ph.D., forms a sweet and loving connection with Ursa, a self-identified alien on a mission to find five miracles.
However, I found the relationship with the neighbor, referred to as the 'egg man' (Gabriel), less appealing. Gabriel is intelligent and kind, he grapples with mental health issues that confine him to the town. He also develops a sweet and loving relationship with Ursa.
The dynamic between Jo and Gabriel feels forceful, especially on Jo's part. Gabriel is upfront about his trauma, yet Jo dismisses it quickly, seemingly lacking empathy. Jo disregards the boundaries Gabriel has set to manage his anxiety and depression, acting as if she knows better. This mirrors the tumultuous relationship he has with his sister. Their relationship escalates rapidly, going from 0 to 100 mph so quickly that his mental health issues almost disappear, and they are no longer apart of the storyline. Which is just unrealistic.
Skipping ahead to the end of the book and shifting the focus away from Jo and Gabriel, it becomes evident that Ursa's trauma has confined her to the narrative of being an alien, given her role as a witness to numerous recent traumas. Her relationships with Jo and Gabriel play a crucial role in helping her find love and safety.
