Pretty good re-imagining of the Batman mythos. It throws a few wrenches in the gears, with the largest being casting Alfred as a tough, ass-kicking former military operative. Aside from the reality tweaks, it's much of the same as any Batman origin story. Pretty well-done, under the guidance of Geoff Johns, but felt like a distinct step down after reading Scott Snyder's batman for years.

I haven't read any of the Earth One books from DC, so this was a little refreshing. It is a bit more realistic take on Batman. Bruce Wayne is still under the cowl, but this is more like Batman: Year One than anything else. It focuses on the beginning stages of the Batman mythos, so it includes the traumatic event that sets Bruce Wayne on his path to justice and shows him as less competent than some of the more recent iterations. It does a good job reimagining the origin story without feeling like a complete rehash. I liked how Alfred and Lucius Fox were introduced in the story. The art is well done and pairs with the story nicely.

Now when will #2 come out after the really long delay? The alternate timeline just feels a bit off, but it's quite alright when you're at the middle of it.

This was fantastic! I can definitely see the similarities between this graphic novel and the TV series Gotham. I can't wait to read more!
