SJM ripped my heart out and stomped all over it. I don’t know if I should give this a 1 for being so heartbreaking or a 5 for being able to make me feel so DAMN much. Honestly, I don’t know if I can ever pick this book up again… but I guess any book that can reap so much emotional havoc probably deserves a high rating.

Also, to be clear: I am reading this series for the first time and I started with this one to go in chronological order. I’m sure I’ll feel different after I’ve read all of the series but right now I’m just heartbroken and not THAT excited to go on

3.5 stars .

I read this as the first one in the series as advised by a friend to do it in this order.

I’m glad I did as it’s given me an idea about who Celaena is, her back story, some of her morals and what potential looks to be her motivation

I would have liked to see Sam survive the though !
