I was intrigued to read Butterface by Avery Flynn because the author was bringing something different to the table, however, it didn't completely grip me. It took me a while before I could get into the story and at first, the characters were kind of annoying. It did move along though and by the end, I did like what I was reading. I don't know if it was that the characters weren't fully developed or if the story wasn't flushed out, but something felt like it was missing for me. That said, the subplot was interesting and the ending brought it all together. She isn't just a meek and mild heroine. 3.5 stars.
This was adorable. I enjoyed the characters and the story even the misunderstandings seemed reasonable. I felt Gina’s pain but love the push back against typical beauty standards. I thought it was a fun extremely light version of Romeo and Juliet with the cops vs criminal families. Super sweet read

This was the first book by Avery Flynn that I have read and it will not be my last. I loved this book, she kept it interesting and wasn’t afraid to make a main character who wasn’t “a beauty”. I loved Gina, she was straight forward and honest, and wasn’t scared to stand her ground. And when that was mixed with Ford, their chemistry was off the charts. They both knew that they shouldn’t be attracted to one another but at the same time felt a connection that they hadn’t felt with someone else. I can’t wait to see what’s up next from Avery Flynn!
Gina has always known she isn’t a beauty, but she doesn’t let it stop her from her goals and doing what she loves. But when a kiss cam kiss turns into an unexpected spark, she wonders what if. But is there really something there, or is it yet again a joke.
Ford is known for following the rules, but when he kisses the wedding planner, she knocks him off his axis. But a kiss is all that it can be, because he is a cop and her family doesn’t necessarily play by the rules.
But of course fate would have it that they would be thrown together when her house becomes under investigation. Will they be able to keep their relationship professional? Or will they both throw caution to the wind and take a chance on one another?

All the Feels
Oh this book was the perfect antidote to get me out of my reading funk. Avery created lovable characters who you couldn't get enough of. I love Ford and his strong, silently brooding personality who looked past everything to see the person inside instead of making choices by the outside package. I wish there were more people like that in real life. Perfectly crafted story!
